Inspire your string student this summer!
If you are new to the camp experience, Horizons String Camp is a real highlight of the summer. Not only do students get to play and do music for two hours, afterwards they will say it was fun!
Research has shown that when students get to be around their peers, they are more motivated to practice. All activities are designed to promote group listening, keep interest in musical learning in age appropriate ways, and increase positive association to music.
"There is no other similarly priced camp I know of that delivers this kind of high quality teaching." -Amanda R., parent
Save hundreds or thousands compared to other camps and institutes, or supplement their sports and other activities for the summer with intensive music study in string playing.
Students will also have extra practice in technique development, and add in lots of fun music theory and ear training, all designed to advance their musical skill.
"It was the best camp of the summer" Michael W., 2017 attendee.
Basic camp runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12 :00 p.m. for ages 7 - 12. Ability level is Suzuki Pre-twinkle to Book 2+ (or equivalent). We will explore more in-depth bow technique, introduce advanced methods in an age appropriate way, and learn supplemental repertoire including fiddling music. We also cover other topics such as music notation, theory, and composition. Bring your own snack and water bottle for snack break!
Ensemble class is for ages 8 - 14, Book 1 (Minuet level), Book 2 and above, to gain experience playing ensemble repertoire. Students are grouped according to age and ability into small ensembles, to play from both Suzuki and outside material for duet/trio/quartet experience. Ensemble class meets from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. each day.
NOTE: Audition required for Ensemble class. Students may submit 1-2 minute audition by video or in person at the studio. Preparation ahead of camp for all music is expected. Attendance is required for all days, with a final performance at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
If attending both String Camp and Ensemble, bring a bag lunch and something to drink.
FIrst hour option is for 5 and 6 year olds to join in from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Parents must attend with your child.
